Dark Gifts

From DDO wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Dark Gifts are a category of feats introduced with the Chill of Ravenloft expansion (Update 74). They represent a bargain you've made with the Dark Powers. They're based on the Dark Gifts in Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft.

They are intentionally stronger or more flexible than many standard feats. However, being a pact with the Dark Powers, each of them comes with a significant, relatively unavoidable, and never-negatable drawback.

  • Dark Gift feats are all ML1.
  • A character may only have one Dark Gift feat (with one exception, detailed in the next section.)

Obtaining and upgrading Dark Gifts[edit]

  • By default, obtaining a Dark Gift requires ownership of any edition of The Chill of Ravenloft. In order to obtain a Dark Gift, a character must obtain an Offering to the Dark Powers from completing the expansion's heroic or legendary Saga.
  • Once they have the Offering, the character must find the Shrine of the Mists in the Land of Lamordia wilderness (located on the Southeast edge of the map, near the entrance to The Wish.) They may then select a Dark Gift from the Shrine. This is a free feat that resets on reincarnation.
    • A character may change their Dark Gift with another Heroic Offering, or remove their Dark Gift altogether by selecting to refuse the Shrine's gift. This causes the character to take an immediate death penalty, which lasts for five minutes - it may be easier, if you decide you no longer want any particular Dark Gift, to switch to Minion of the Eldritch, as this feat is Active and therefore has no associated permanent penalty (indeed, its upgraded form, uniquely among the selection, provides a small permanent benefit with no drawbacks.)
  • A character with a Dark Gift from the Shrine may gain an Upgraded Dark Gift by obtaining a Greater Offering to the Dark Powers from completing the legendary Saga and turning that into the shrine - this grants an additional feat based on their current Dark Gift. Upgraded Dark Gifts typically provide a small permanent buff and/or mitigate the associated negative effects of their base feat. Changing or removing your base Dark Gift after upgrading it will result in the Upgraded buff being lost - if you choose to switch your base Dark Gift, another Greater Offering is required to upgrade it.
  • Only Dhampir Dark Bargainers can have more than one Dark Gift - they select a single Dark Gift on character creation, and may select another from the Shrine later. Dark Bargainers cannot remove or upgrade their original Dark Gift using the Shrine, only the Gift they selected there - as such, if they intend to take two Dark Gifts it is advisable that they identify which feat they want to upgrade and select the other one during character creation. A Dark Bargainer can't select the same Dark Gift at the Shrine. Playing a Dark Bargainer is the only way to unlock a Dark Gift without owning The Chill of Ravenloft, although this will preclude you from upgrading it.

Echoing Soul Echoing Soul Passive

Your soul is fractured, shifted, or connected to another in some way. Perhaps your past or future is affecting your present soul, or perhaps some other entity is inextricably linked with you. In any case, it manifests in knowledge and fears that aren't your own.

  • +3 to all Skills plus an additional 1 for every 2 Character Levels you have
  • +1 to all Saving Throws, plus an additional 1 for every 3 Character Levels you have

Your body is cursed to be prone to all manner of damage, but with the ability to withstand it.

  • +5 PRR/MRR
  • When you take damage your body changes and you gain the Form of Pain effect which grants +2 PRR/MRR but also reduces movement speed and increases spell costs by 1% as the pain distracts you. This can stack 10 times, with one stack being removed every 3 seconds.

Touch of Death Touch of Death Passive

Every touch causes life to wilt, but you can use this power if you know the way...

Web-Touched Wretch Web-Touched Wretch Passive

You've become entwined with a great cosmic web, which occasionally becomes coterminous with reality.

  • When you get hit with a Melee or Ranged attacks, there is a small chance the webs turn on you, applying a slow effect which lasts 6 seconds. Spells/Immunities like Freedom of Movement do not prevent this.
