The famous Wizard Tarent Hoxworth has organized his memory as a library. Each memory was neatly filed away on the shelves - until a rival Wizard cast a spell that has brought chaos to Tarent's tidy mind.

Overview

Tara Fenwyth wants you to help the renowned Wizard Tarent Hoxworth to recover his memory so he can deliver a speech. Speak with Tara Fenwyth and she will teleport you to inside Tarent's Memory Library.

Tips and Misc

Walkthrough
  • Talk to Tara.
  • All books are virtual – they do not appear as items in anyone's pack. This also means that anyone can place them (right or wrong!) at the end fight.

Note: the Narrator will indicate whether a book you have found is required or optional. If he says "You have found one of the books for the speech", it is a required book and you can safely exit that wing (if you don't care about the optional XP). If he says "You find a book that can be used in the speech", it is just an optional book – don't leave the wing until you've found the required book as well.

Four wings

Clear all four wings and pick up the required book in each. In each wing there is only one required book, and one other optional book (+5% XP each).

  • The Narrator will notify you when "All the books in the <current> Wing have been found."
  • In many areas, animated bookcases, "Shelved Memories", will spawn various waves of mobs. While dangerous themselves, these waves will stop only once the bookcase itself has been "killed".
  • West wing: (Common room) The required book, "Tarent's Memoir", can be found in the far corner among Tarent's classmates, along with a set of shrines.
  • Optional: The second, optional book, "An Index of Recent Acquisitions", can be found up the stairs.
  • North wing: (Library) The book stacks are a bit of a maze, so be prepared. A secret door in one of the bookcases opens to additional stacks where the objective books can be found.
  • The required book has three different names depending on what you're looking at and is on a small table, but can only be found by using the search skill on the small tables throughout the area.
    • Card catalog calls it "Fundamentals of Magic"
    • On the table it's labeled as "Core Principals of Magic"
    • Picking up the book it says it's "Principals of Magic"
  • A clue to its location can be found in the card catalog which is located with a set shrines in a room southeast off the main stacks. The book row numbers can be found by looking on stone floor slabs marked with Roman numerals.
  • Optional: The second, optional book, "Tarent Hoxworth's Journal", can be found in the far southeast corner of the stacks.
  • There is an unguarded, locked chest behind a secret door in one of the book central racks.
  • There is a well-guarded chest behind a secret door toward the northwest corner of the book racks.
  • At the far north end of the wing, a door leads to Papyrerus (the "bookwyrm" referred to in the optionals), who guards a third chest.
  • East wing: The required book, the "Central Thesis", can be found in a small side room near the top of the room, but you must first jump and fight to gather crests to activate two moving platforms to get there (2 crests for the lower platform, 1 for the upper).
  • From above, one can pull levers to lower ladders for less agile characters.
  • Optional: The second, optional book, "Cook book", can be found near the second platform.
  • South wing: (large tree) The required book, "1001 Jokes for Silly Sorcerers and Wacky Wizards" is on a tree stump at the top of the winding ramps.
  • Optional: The second, optional book, "Math book", can be found nearby.
  • There is a nuisance "trap" of air gusts; timing it is easy.
End fight

  • If you talk to The Librarian he will tell you that a successful speech generally includes the following elements:
  1. A humorous anecdote designed to put the audience at ease,
  2. A story that connects with an important audience member by calling attention to a shared topic of interest,
  3. A brief summary of the fundamental principles underlying the subject,
  4. And last but not least, a clear and convincing central thesis.
  • Following that advice, place only the four required books on the podium in order
  1. Place "1001 Jokes for Silly Sorcerers and Wacky Wizards" on the podium.
  2. Place Tarent's Memoir of his enthusiastic college friend on the podium.
  3. Place the book "Fundamentals of Magic" on the podium.
  4. Place the Central Thesis on the podium.
  • Anyone can place a book, right or wrong! After any book, you get to fight a wave of trash and a bit of Vaspar, who then hides within a forcefield and waits for the next round. No new fighting will appear until someone places the next book, giving the party time to resurrect, re-buff, run to the shrine, take a party break for dinner, whatever. In the same vein, no one should place the next book until everyone is ready.
  • Bug: Probably go slow on Vaspar and careful with damage over time effects, the quest can be rendered incompletable with Vaspar alive with negative HP (not clear why).
Optional fights
  • Crushing Details can be found behind a secret door in aisle IV of the north wing.
  • Bookwyrm is to be found in a room on the northern side of the north wing.
